When Jessica and Catherine were just starting out with their writing and teaching careers, they attended a week-long writing program in the early 2000s. Every morning, the instructor read aloud to the group from Rilke’s Letters to a Young Poet. During the day, it was time to write. But in the evenings, after dinner, they’d go for long walks in the Kawartha Hills, talking about poetry, writing, and life. The conversations continued through the decades, life changes, publishing milestones, and teaching moments.
They’ve always lived in different cities, mostly writing for different audiences. Yet, the conversations continued. And now, they linger on The Hummingbird Podcast.
